Winery visit - Vino Petric

In the small village Slap in Vipava Valley in Slovenia, you can find Vino Petrič. We visited Vino Petrič because we heard that they have Peach wine. Yep, you read it correctly - peach wine. So we went to buy the Peach wine and ended up having a quick wine tasting with Urban who is the winemaker.

More information about Vino Petrič and Urban, read on their webpage (https://vino-petric.com/en/).

Bellow you are going to find my tasting notes and a few pictures. All the information about the wines and the production methods were provided by Urban Petric and available also on their webpage.

Peach wine 2017

Grapes: vineyard peaches and grape variety Zelen. ABV 11,5%.

Semi-sweet.

The color is medium to deep lemon (didn't have a white paper to put under and take a picture).

Very strong aromas of peach, nectarine, yellow tree fruits, sweet citrus.

The very same aromas continue in flavor, where the peach kind of takes over. In the aftertaste, the freshness from Zelen is very present.

* Vineyards are planted on marl soil with south-east exposure.

* Production: hand-harvested grapes in mid-September. Maceration for 32 hours and fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Maturation 2 months on lees in the stainless steel tanks + minimum of 4 months maturation in the bottle before sale.

Rose 2019

Grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon 50% and Merlot 50%. ABV 12,5,%. Dry.

The color is pale salmon.

Aromas of white peach, peach, nectarines, red fruits, fresh red fruits. Merlot aromas are more present than CS aromas.

Flavors of red fruits, ripe red fruits, cranberry, some blackberry. Here the CS flavors are dominant.

Short finish, medium body.

* Vineyards are planted on marl soil with south-east exposure.

* Production: from hand-harvested grapes at the end of September. Maceration for 4 hours (both Merlot and CS together). Fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Maturation on the lees for 2 months in the stainless steel tanks + maturation in the bottles for at least 2 months before release.

White Nature 2018 - orange wine/natural wine

Grapes: Ribolla (dominant), Malvasia (sweet aromas), and autochthonous variety Zelen (freshness and acidity). ABV 13%. Dry.

The color is medium to deep gold with soft notes of pink.

Aromas of sweet citrus, red-orange, vanilla. In the flavors, oak is present, sweet oak aromas, light smoke, red-orange, some sweet fruits.

Medium+ body with a long finish.

* Vineyards are planted on marl soil with south-east exposure.

* Production: from hand-harvested grapes at the end of September. Maceration for 15-20 days. The longer maceration period gives better color extraction, a better body, and more antioxidants, keeping the wine stable. Spontaneous fermentation in oak barrels. Maturation 9 months in Slavonian oak barrels (500 l). Bottled at the waning moon 10 months after harvest date. No filtration, with very little levels of sulfites. Additional maturation in the bottle of at least months before release.

Red Natura 2018 - natural wine

Grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Barbera (gives freshness)!. ABV 13%. Dry. The color is medium ruby.

Aromas are very intense, ripe strawberries, strawberry pastry (influence from the oak). The flavors are sweet spices, strawberries, oak, vanilla.

Smooth medium tannins, medium body with medium + finish.

* Vineyards are planted on marl soil with south-east exposure.

* Production: hand-harvested grapes at the end of September. Maceration of Cabernet and Barbera together for 25 days and Merlot for 8 days. Spontaneous fermentation in oak barrels. Maturation for 14 months in Barrique size barrels (225l). Bottled with the waning moon 15 months after harvest. No filtration with low levels of sulfites.
